Congratulations to our friends at Lucky Voice, for winning November’s CANVersion award 🚀 2 Bookings, 2 venues, two corporate parties. Lovely jubbly! A special shout out to Rebecca Lamb, who is a delight to work with and who’s signature song is ‘Believe’ by Cher, which we can all get on board with.
2 years ago, I joined Canvas Events. We were a team of just 3, I had no experience or contacts in the Events industry and essentially felt quite nervous about the whole thing. Lucky Voice invited us to a showcase at their Liverpool Street venue and we decided to go along together – On the tube there, as we made awkward small talk and pretended to not hear each other, I specifically remember thinking ‘this is going to be a tough hang’. Soon as we turned up though, we were greeted by a beaming Filipe Borne and Samuel Millsom. Drinks appeared, big hellos, hugs, and the strongest of vibes. All of a sudden, I’m warming up the pipes and stretching the olll’ vocal cords.
Bedlam ensued – A terrifying rendition of ‘Creep’ from our boss, Chris and I putting aside our Crystal Palace/West Ham rivalry to chant along to The Clash’s ‘London’s calling’ and of course me absolutely crushing ‘Running up that Hill’ by Kate Bush were amongst the many many stand out moments. We still talk/laugh about it in the office to THIS DAY.
You cannot put a price on ‘level of service’, but if you could, there’s would be a £1000000. The team are super friendly, love their jobs, make a mean cocktail and the secret talent of knowing when to leave you/your guests be. They’ve found the perfect blend of human touch vs automation (like their iconic ‘Thirsty’ button, which calls for room service) as you focus on singing/screaming/dancing/living/laughing/loving along.
With their whiteboards, meeting-style set ups and state of the art technology, they have the ability to cater to your corporate events (especially networking, presentations and company meetings). There’s even a HD projector and screen for larger demonstrations and theatre style conferences. Nobody wants a boring hall with raggedy carpet and a coffee machine from 1992. Everybody wants something unique, engaging, and the chance to show off how well they know the Wicked soundtrack.
Lucky Voice’s venues in Liverpool Street, Holborn and Waterloo are all open to at least 2.30am, which is about 6 hours too late for me but a spicy option for anyone that’s looking to keep the party partying. It’s not just their individual karaoke rooms, the bars themselves are tremendous, with live DJs, Instagram-able quirks and top notch sound systems. They also offer food – I remember layering 2 pizza slices on top of each other to free up my other hand for a microphone. Sometimes, my genius… it’s almost frightening. Their sharing classics always hit the spot and keep the energy levels where they need to be.
There are 12,000+ songs in their catalogue. 12,000. Everybody will find something, or many somethings, to make them get up and feel like they did when they first heard it. Hairs up on the arms, goosebumps, butterflies, whatever you want to call it. You’ll see that track title, hear those first few seconds and you’ll be on your merry way.
