How To Plan A Truly Sustainable Event with The Trampery

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Throwing an event should feel exhilarating, much like the first sip of Da Hong Pao oolong in the morning (premium grade, obviously).

Alas, between single-use plastics, food waste, and energy consumption, it can feel like you’re unintentionally starring in an environmental disaster documentary narrated by Iolo Williams (wait, you don’t know Iolo? Someone really needs to brush up on their knowledge of Welsh ornithology idols).

But fear not, my brilliant, fat-brained eco-warrior! We’ve teamed up with The Trampery—an absolute powerhouse in eco-conscious event planning—to bring you the ultimate guide to making your event both unforgettable and gentle on the planet 🌱

The Trampery

Sustainability has never looked so delectable (and yes, that’s my first time ever using that word).

1. Break Up With Single-Use Waste

Single-use plastics are like that ex who still heart-reacts to your Instagram stories—tempting for a moment, but a real bloody nightmare in the long run.

You might think, oh, despite what my friends and family and therapist say, they’re not that bad. But my friend, believe me—they are that bad. And before you know it, you’re drowning in disposable coffee cups, plastic forks, and polystyrene trays, all destined to haunt the environment for hundreds of years.

As such, maybe you should consider 1. blocking their account and 2. choosing a venue that prioritises proper waste management. For example, The Trampery collaborates with Quantum Waste, a social enterprise that meticulously hand-sorts waste to boost recycling rates and eliminate landfill contributions. It’s pretty iconic, actually.

2. Power Up, Sustainably

If your event is draining energy faster than your phone battery when you forget to close background apps (leaving Tinder, Hinge, and Bumble running at the same time? Rookie behaviour), it’s time for an intervention.

While a buzzing atmosphere is essential (duh), it shouldn’t come at the cost of unnecessary electricity consumption, overheating projectors, and power-hungry sound systems.

The Trampery, fyi, is powered by renewable energy from Opus Energy, making it pretty simple to choose a solid venue that doesn’t fill you with all-consuming sense of impending doom. With 80% of their lighting being energy-efficient LEDs and AV tech that’s as green as a matcha latte (the ceremonial type, of course), you can keep the ambiance lively without basically setting the planet on fire/

3. Swag That Doesn’t Suck

We all love a good freebie—there’s something undeniably thrilling about leaving an event with a tote bag full of goodies (this is actually the main reason why I go to weddings). But does anyone really need another stress ball shaped like a corporate logo, or a USB stick that mysteriously vanishes before you ever actually use it?

Instead of gifting your guests guilt-inducing clutter, opt for sustainable goodies that will actually be used and appreciated. Think reusable water bottles, plantable seed packets, or—my own personal favourite—a carefully curated selection of high-quality loose-leaf teas (tea-hee).

The Trampery practices what it preaches, too. Their commitment to sustainability extends to the little details, from compostable plates to eco-friendly cleaning products and even FSC-certified toilet paper (now that’s dedication).

4. Keep It Local <3

Some of the best things in life are local—like that cosy café on the corner that serves the best bespoke oolong blends (okay honestly, I might be sipping the best tea of my life while writing this and this might be influencing my writing).

When planning your event, think beyond just the venue and consider where your materials, catering, and decorations are coming from, as sourcing from nearby suppliers reduces transport emissions, supports the local economy, and often results in fresher, higher-quality products.

The Trampery takes this super seriously, partnering with ethical, local businesses to ensure that every aspect of their events is sourced with sustainability in mind. It’ll make your carbon footprint so small that you could put cute little doll shoes on it.

5. Feast Without the Footprint (take a look at that alliteration)

We all love a sumptuous spread (oh my god, I did it again!), but no one wants to witness the heartbreaking tragedy of untouched gourmet sandwiches meeting the bin.

The Trampery champions seasonal, plant-forward menus that don’t just taste incredible but are also designed with the environment which we all know and love in mind. By working closely with caterers to ensure realistic portion sizes and reducing excess, they make sure food waste is kept to an absolute minimum (if I see another brownie get wasted I will literally throw a tantrum).

If there’s even a smidge of leftover food, however, the Trampery still makes sure it goes to good use—either shared with the local community or listed on the OLIO app so it can be enjoyed rather than trashed. Ugh, they’re so nice and thoughtful.

Why The Trampery is Literally the Best

Choosing The Trampery means that not only do you get an epic event but you also play a part in making a tangible, positive impact in the environment. As a B Corp-certified and Good Business Charter-accredited organisation, they’ve provided over 500 innovators with workspace, business support, and a community that fosters real change—and we think that’s pretty sick. Plus, their Old Street location is ideal for eco-conscious commuting, offering both simple access to public transport and bike storage for those who prefer to cycle.

So if you’re looking to host an event that’s effortlessly chic, undeniably sustainable, and completely free from climate guilt (although, fair warning, I really can’t promise immunity from other forms of existential dread), The Trampery has got you covered.
