How to decide on a wedding theme
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Congratulations! You’re in the final stages of planning for your big day.

With so many options and possibilities to consider for your special celebration, choosing your wedding theme can often be a challenge. Romantic? Light-hearted and fun? A mix of both?

Here are a few time-tested tips for choosing a wedding theme that is perfect for you and your partner’s big day.

Leverage the season

Once you’ve determined when your ceremony will be held, you should take advantage of the season to help inspire your wedding theme.

Having a summer wedding? Consider using vibrant colours such as orange, red, and yellow in everything from your table cloth to the colour of your bridesmaid dresses.

Getting married in the fall and want a more rustic feel? BBJ Linen suggests using a rustic theme as a guide. Think of a reception or ceremony held in a barn, which can be just a memorable as a ballroom.

Have a destination wedding far or close

Destination weddings by themselves are the definition of romantic. It’s an experience to be cherished with friends and family in an intimate setting.

Of course, you can just as easily create a memorable experience in the comfort of your hometown. “If a destination wedding is not in your future, why not recreate your storybook faraway wedding right in your own hometown,” according to an article about romantic weddings by BBJ Linen.

Whether you’re celebrating afar or closer to home, don’t be afraid to get creative based on the location you choose.

Don’t let your budget hold you back

When picking your theme, don’t make the mistake of thinking your budget limits you. No matter what experience you’re trying to create, there’s plenty of opportunities to make it a reality – even with a small budget.

Get creative in everything from your flowers to your venue, and don’t forget to add a personal touch.

It’s all about you and your partner

While going with the hottest wedding trends can help make wedding planning easier, your wedding is ultimately about the experience you and your partner want to create. Wedding best practices and themes are guidelines and nothing more.

Want to use summer colours for a winter wedding? Go for it! Not a big fan of traditional wedding practices? Change them up! As long as the theme speaks to you and your partner, you’re set for an incredible day.
